Technical Project Manager
Lead multidisciplinary medical device development across hardware, embedded software, cloud and analytics – from approved requirements to a product ready for manufacturing. Based at Oslo Science Park in Oslo. Application deadline: 16 November 2026.
About Ably Medical
Ably Medical develops LYNG, a contactless monitoring mat placed under the mattress in hospitals, nursing homes or home care. Our focus is on giving care teams useful insight while keeping everyday care simple. We bring together medical device engineering, software and clinical understanding to support a more preventive approach to healthcare.
The Role
This is a role for someone who enjoys both the technical detail and the bigger picture. You will lead multidisciplinary medical device development across hardware, embedded software, cloud services and analytics — and help shape how R&D at Ably Medical is organised and delivered.
In this senior, hands-on role, you will turn approved product requirements into realistic plans, resolve technical trade-offs and integration challenges, and bring internal engineers and external partners together around delivery. Working closely with the management team, you will give the organisation a clear view of progress, risks and decisions needed.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead project scope, milestones, resources, budget, dependencies and technical risks.
- Drive system architecture, multidisciplinary integration and traceability from requirements to test evidence.
- Manage design control, risk management, design reviews, engineering changes and V&V.
- Deliver engineering evidence for MDR CE marking in close collaboration with QARA.
- Lead design transfer with Operations covering manufacturing documentation, test methods, software releases and readiness acceptance.
- Lead and coordinate developers across geographical sites, aligning the team around shared priorities, a common technical direction and delivery goals. Manage outsourced development partners through clear work packages, controlled interfaces and technical acceptance.
- Coordinate R&D capacity, resolve delivery constraints and report progress and resource needs to the management team.
Why Join Ably Medical?
You will join at an early stage, as LYNG moves from clinical pilots toward commercial scale, and have direct influence on both the product and the way we develop it. The role combines technical leadership with the opportunity to shape R&D delivery, working closely with the management team and across engineering, quality, clinical and manufacturing. We are a small, dedicated team with a flat, Scandinavian structure, where your opinions are heard and good ideas come from everyone.
Required Experience and Skills
You don't need to tick every box below. Gaps in one area may be offset by broader experience in other areas.
- 8+ years of experience in similar roles.
- Documented successful completion of ISO 13485-governed development projects for physical products with integrated software, including V&V and design transfer.
- Hands-on CE marking experience under EU MDR 2017/745, including technical documentation, conformity assessment support and QARA collaboration.
- Strong technical project management covering scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks and outsourced partners.
- Strong system architecture and systems engineering across hardware, embedded software, cloud and analytics, including interface control and integration.
- Practical competence in design control, traceability, medical device risk management, configuration and change control, and cybersecurity.
- Relevant technical degree or equivalent documented professional competence.
Language Requirements
- Required: spoken and written English at A-level, or equivalent documented language skills.
- Desired: spoken and written Norwegian at a similar level is an advantage.
Additional Advantages
- Formal project management qualification.
- Experience in technology strategy, overall R&D leadership and people management.
- A relevant Engineering MSc.
How You Will Work
Product Management defines product needs and priorities; you lead the technical work that makes them deliverable. You will collaborate with QARA on controlled approvals and regulatory evidence, and with Operations on manufacturing readiness. Technical sign-off will follow documented competence and the delegated Ably QMS mandate.
The role is based at Oslo Science Park (Forskningsparken) in Oslo, Norway, where we are part of the Aleap health startup incubator. We work primarily on-site, with some flexibility, and with travel to our other sites as part of the role.
Tell Us What You Have Helped Bring to Life
Submit your CV and a few brief, non-confidential examples of medical device projects you have helped deliver, through the application form below. We are particularly interested in your role, the technical challenges you worked through and the outcomes — including completed ISO 13485-governed development projects, your hands-on contribution to MDR CE marking, architecture responsibilities and design transfer. Please also describe your English and Norwegian language skills.
Application deadline: 16 November 2026. Questions about the role: Peter T. Nylund, CFO (job@ablymed.com). We look forward to hearing from you.
